We serve superb food from an innovative menu which enables our kitchens to use - at its seasonal best - fresh, local, organic produce where possible. We were awarded the title of "Dorset Dining Pub of the Year" in September 2008 and we were "runners up" in the same category in September 2009. The Crown at Marnhull is steeped in history. It has been used as a pub and has been serving customers since the time of King Henry the eighth. The thatched part of the building dates back to the 16th century and has as far as possible remained untouched. A priest hole is still visable in the bar that linked the pub to the nearby St Gregory`s church. Thomas Hardy was a frequent visitor to The Crown and the pub features in his most famous novel, Tess of the D`urbervilles as ` The Pure Drop Inn` situated in the village of Marlot.(Marnhull). Nowadays, The Crown boasts its most recent addition. 5 ensuite letting bedrooms. Spacious and fully equipped with king size beds, cotton bed linen, huge fluffy towels, bath robes, flat screen HD TV`s with freeview, stereo system with ipod dock, alarm clock, tea and coffee making facilities, room safe, free WIFI, power showers and deep roll top baths supplied with toiletries. Who have put their experience to excellent use in making the Saxon Inn one of the most appealing pubs for many miles around. Ringwood best and Butcombe Bitter are the regular real ales, joined by changing guests and all kept in tip-top condition - CAMRA Good Beer Guide approved of course. The food is another good reason for a visit here. There is a wide choice of traditional pub dishes featured in the A la Carte menu, supported by a daily specials board reflecting the seasonal choices and availability of fresh fish.
