Sutherland House Restaurant with rooms is located on Southwold High Street, and is one of the oldest and most historically important buildings in Southwold. The historical features of a house dating back to 1455, and having Two Star listed status, contrast with comfortable but contemporary furnishings and sumptuous fabrics.  Our restaurant has been awarded two rosettes by the AA for the quality of our food. The food is locally sourced, we print "food miles" on our menu to quantify this, and we only use seasonal ingredients. You will not find Asparagus or Strawberries here out of the English growing season and some of our vegetables and soft fruit has only 400 "food yards" on it as comes from our own allotment in Southwold! The cycle is complete as we compost all of our vegetable peelings at the allotment in an attempt to reduce our carbon footprint as far as possible.

The clinker built boats and the black-tarred huts of the long shore fisherman are all that lie on the shingle beach between the North sea (once known as the German ocean) and the Wentworth Hotel. Step inside the Wentworth, owned and managed by three generations of the Pritt Family since 1920, and the country house atmosphere of spacious lounges, with comfortable sofas, fresh flowers and open fires, offers a warm welcome and plenty of room to unwind. In the summer, enjoy an informal alfresco lunch in the sunken terrace garden and in the evening enjoy dinner in our elegant candlelit restaurant with menus using fresh local produce. The restaurant currently has 2AA Rosettes. Upstairs the 28 bedrooms are carefully furnished and vary in size. Many have sea views with binoculars provided to scan the horizon. In Darfield House opposite the main hotel there are 7 bedrooms that are particularly spacious and guests staying here have the additional use of secluded patio garden. All the bedrooms have television, radio and telephone and all have en-suite bathrooms. The Wentworth has its own car park for 30 cars with additional parking outside the hotel.
