An 18th century coaching inn of character with open fires, a wealth of beams & horse brasses, standing in the cobbled square of this pretty Georgian market town. The George is a friendly, family-run Inn, enjoying an excellent reputation for good food in both our Restaurant & Courtyard Bar, together with some fine wines & real ales. Privacy and comfort are priorities within a personal, attentive and friendly environment.   We are family owned and have a friendly smiling team of staff to look after your every need. We have a crackling log fire in our carved oak panelled bar which leads through to the restaurant. We are known for our award winning cuisine specialising in the finest local produce. Castle Howard is a short drive, as are the Abbeys of Byland and Rievaulx. Old Granary House is a restored farm building, full of character. It is situated just off the A59 roughly halfway between Harrogate and York. The house is set in south facing open countryside, with mature shrubs and a natural wildlife pond complete with resident ducks (that like to be fed) Moorhens and Coots and Canada Geese that come to raise their young (Spring to Autumn). There is roughly half an acre of garden in which you can relax after a busy day exploring all that this part of Yorkshire has to offer, including numerous historic attractions, stately homes and museums. The house is ideally positioned to use as a base for those who like outdoor pursuits eg; cycling and walking. Also close by are several good quality golf courses, fishing lakes and the famous York racecourse and one for the ladies, designer shopping. The East coast seaside towns are less than 45 minutes away for those families wishing to spend time on the beach. The excellent York Park and Ride scheme is a 10 minute drive away which will transport you into the heart of York, allowing a full day to take advantage of this historic and attractive city. The House is in a traditional farmhouse style , with exposed beams throughout stone floors and log burning stoves on the ground floor, while the first floor still retains the traditional style, it offers bright clean contemporary rooms. All first floor rooms have new modern en-suite shower facilities. The downstairs superior / family room has a more traditional feel, with solid oak king size sleigh bed and matching furniture. This room also has a wrought iron day bed that converts into 2 full size single beds. French doors lead onto the south facing garden. The en-suite bathroom comprises of a large roll top bath, and large shower enclosure again finished with exposed beams and traditional tiled floor.
