The building dates back to the 1900s and was originally built by William Pentey, who was of some importance in the late Victorian period. The structure was commissioned by a Leeds tobacconist, who wanted to expand his business using the River Ouse to deliver tobacco to his customers. Later, during the First and Second World Wars, the building was used by the army paymasters. The property was later sold and developed into a hotel. Today, the building still retains some charming original features, such as the splendid staircase and leaded windows throughout.
