Things could be looking a bit more European in Edinburgh as a scheme is being considered that would allow pavement cafes to have all-day opening hours, according to the Edinburgh Evening News.

Local restaurant and cafe owners are being asked for their input on a new plan to introduce more outdoor eating on the streets of Scotland's capital.

Although plans were originally halted for the development, they were quickly brought back to be rediscussed after businesses pushed for the time extension.

One of Edinburgh's restaurant owners, Tony Crolla, owns a chain of Italian restaurants in the city. Agreeing with plans for the new proposal, he said to the Evening News: "What the council should realise is that it is the people of Edinburgh who want to sit outside and have a meal when the weather is good.

"I don't see how it is going to cause any problems."

Edinburgh's SNP councillor Steve Cardownie concurred, saying to the same publication: "I know the weather we've had this summer hasn't been great but I do think people want to sit outside and enjoy themselves like they do all over Europe." ADNFCR-1180-ID-18295552-ADNFCR
