Devon is to get a new accolade added to its crown from the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) for its high horticultural standards, according to the Western Morning News.

It is expected to receive the very prestigious gold award from the RHS for the city of Plymouth for having an excellent green environment.

RHS judge Mark Wasilewski said to the Western Morning News: "The investment in green space in the city was a valuable benefit to businesses, shoppers and visitors alike.

"We were really impressed by the quality of the floral displays and in particular the Scouts theme at The Hoe incorporating the dove sculpture."

Additionally, the village of Instow also received a silver gilt award in the village category from the RHS.

"Instow in Bloom has adopted a wonderful policy of sustainable and largely native planting which blends horticulture with nature," said Mr Wasilewski.

"This permeates in the late spring and early summer with fantastically colourful floral displays." ADNFCR-1180-ID-18296293-ADNFCR
