One of Edinburgh's understated historical buildings is to get revamped in an attempt to bring it into the public eye, according to the Edinburgh Evening News.

Acheson House, an A-listed building on the famous Royal Mile, has been in dire need of repairs recently, and it is hoped that the £10 million funding it is to receive will give it a boost.

Current plans hope to use it as an extension of the Museum of Edinburgh, displaying a history of the city centre.

A spokesman for the Edinburgh World Heritage trust said to the Edinburgh Evening News: "We would strongly welcome plans to renovate Acheson House and open it to the public as part of the Museum of Edinburgh.

"There is currently no permanent exhibition explaining the World Heritage Site to visitors, and Acheson House would provide an excellent location at the very heart of the Old Town."

Acheson House was first built in 1633 for Charles I's secretary of state for Scotland, Sir Archibald Acheson.ADNFCR-1180-ID-18293651-ADNFCR
