Holidaymakers' views wanted on Blackpool's future
20th Sep 2007Blackpool Council is consulting with residents and holidaymakers to find out how they want the town to improve and develop.
Four different ideas are being showcased by the local authority and they are keen to see which people prefer. The regeneration plans focus on St John's Precinct which is located in front of the Winter Gardens and the church.
St John's Church will be the venue for a crucial public exhibition of all four designs from this weekend and people are being encouraged to come and discuss the very different schemes.
Firstly, LDA's plans involve the creation of a relaxed space with an interactive water feature and plenty of room for eating and drinking. However, there are concerns that the total cost of the scheme at £3.5 million could deter support.
Next up is the Capita Symons plan which aims to highlight the pedestrian friendly nature of the site as well as making the church the main focus of the design.
Developer Letts Wheeler's proposal is definitely more ambitious complete with a gothic/arabesque floor design alongside a special tree area ideal for relaxing in. Finally, Leit Werk is hoping to win public backing for their modern approach involving a mirrored steel structure and free wifi.
Local radio station Rock FM is encouraging people to check out the plans and get in touch with their comments.
