This Saturday the residents of Headington, Oxford will reclaim the streets when cars are banned from All Saints Road between 11:00 BST and 23:00 BST on Saturday.

The Streets for People Day, organised by Oxford City Council, is aimed at letting people see what the streets can be like when the cars are taken away.

"The idea behind the day is to get the local community to understand how the streets are a valuable asset and can be used in this way," Patrick Coulter, chairman of the Highfield Residents' Association, told the Oxford Mail.

"We've closed the road off on a number of occasions before, but this is the biggest event of this kind that we have organised so far."

Broad Street in the city will also be closed to cars and will play host to a jive dance group and morris dancers.

Meanwhile a barbecue is the focus of the day for North Parade Avenue in north Oxford.
