Devon cottage awarded South West Tourism 'green' award
Higher Wiscombe holiday cottages in Southleigh have added another green award to the area of England that is becoming known as the healthiest place to stay.
The tradition of green and eco-friendly practices in Devon seems to permeate every facet of the area, from its scenic coast, renowned produce and ales to its hospitality sector, which are all committed to serving its visitors with a high standard of enjoyment.
Winning the sustainable tourism award at the South West Tourism Excellence Awards 2007, Alistair and Lorna Handyside were among dozens of businesses in the area to win awards for their efforts to reduce carbon emissions.
Visitors to Devon and to the Handyside's cottages can see just why protecting the environment is so important: the cottage is located in the heart of the east Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) as well as the spectacular Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site and even have access to the truly one-of-a-kind, 500-year-old oak tree designated one of the Great Trees of East Devon.
