Hogmany New Year's festival in Edinburgh
An unforgettable New Year's tradition in Scotland's capital is the Hogmany Festival, a gigantic street party that is entertained by live bands and fireworks displays under the skyline of Edinburgh Castle.
Visitors wanting to spend their New Year's holiday in the heart of Edinburgh can hear details of the bands to appear in early November, but in recent years artists like KT Tunstall and Blondie have performed at the event.
This four day festival caters to all kinds of visitors and being located in the heart of the city, there are plenty of hotels, bed and breakfasts and self-catering accommodation available.
The festival officially starts with a torchlight ceremony, bonfires and fireworks that commemorate traditional Viking celebrations.
For the tourist trying to stay just out of the cramped city during the festival, a bed and breakfast such as the Clan Walker Guest House is an easy 15-20 minute walk from the festival and has en-suite bedrooms and private parking.
