Travelling to the Lake District is becoming a more and more popular choice for visitors as the colder months approach.

Late season bookings in Cumbria have seen record numbers of bookings for hotels, bed and breakfasts and self-catering accommodation since August and into the autumn/winter season.

Cold weather attractions such as winter pike fishing in the Hawkeshead area of the Lake District can be a way to enjoy the outdoors in typically off-season times. Visitors can choose from special boat and rod hire or fly fishing courses for beginners or experts, perfect for getaways for friends or a family adventure.

According to Cumbria Tourism, it has seen its busiest ever month since being launched in 2004 to attract more people to book hotels and accommodation in the region.

Recognising the value of the internet in bringing more tourism to the area, James Berresford, director of tourism at the Northwest Regional Development Agency, said that the "remarkable" success "demonstrates the growing importance of e-commerce for today's visitor".
