Blackpool's horse clean-up
26th Nov 2007Blackpool Council has backed a move to help clean up the city's famous promenade by fitting its horse carriages with dung-catchers.
It is hoped the move will improve the appearance of the world-renowned promenade along Blackpool and will help to increase demand from visitors for the city's accommodation.
Hotels and bed and breakfasts situated along the front and on the promenade may find that visitors will appreciate the improved atmosphere and the appearance of the seafront.
The council has taken the step after a consultation with visitors, hotels and other businesses which found that the majority of those questioned believed the presence of manure from Blackpool's 44 landaus hindered the attractiveness of the seafront.
The RSPCA was brought in to help design the nappies that are to be fitted to the landaus, to ensure that the horses were not made uncomfortable by the dung-catchers.
