Devon County Council has been given a prestigious award for its efforts to map the county's road network.

The move will help visitors to the region to travel around the county on improved road surfaces, as the initiative was carried out in order to provide the council with a plan of action on road maintenance.

It is hoped that the new mapping will result in improved road conditions across the county, making it easier for locals to get around and travellers to reach their hotels and bed and breakfasts.

Devon County Council was presented with the 2007 National Street Gazetteer (NSG) Best Gazetteer Integration, together with the NSG Best Business Integration awards at a ceremony aimed at promoting 'transformational government'.

Visitors to Devon can find a wide variety of accommodation available to them, with some hotels located off the beaten track, offering a taste of the quiet life in a beautiful rural setting.
