While many visitors to Cornwall hit the beach as soon as they arrive, few people will ever get the chance to witness, let alone ride, the incredible waves experienced this week in Penzance.

Stormy weather in the county has created 50ft waves off the Cornish coast, prompting extreme sports enthusiasts to jump on their boards.

Photography student Jacob Cockle, 22, took incredible photos of his friends, Lee William and Charlie Thompson, 21, as they braved the waves.
"Penzance never gets waves like this," he told the Daily Mail. "No-one here has ever seen anything like it.

"Other parts of Cornwall are used to big waves - but nothing like this has ever been seen before.

"This is as much about extreme weather as extreme surfing."

Home of Gilbert and Sullivan's pirates, Penzance offers a wealth of warm and cosy B&Bs and self-catering accommodation for couch potatoes and adrenaline junkies alike.
