Visitors to Cornwall's bed and breakfast, hotel and self-catering accommodation are increasingly using the internet to book their trip, new research has found.

A survey by Cornwall Enterprise's VisitCornwall service shows that the internet is now the single main source of information for tourists.

Six out of ten internet users made their holiday bookings via the world wide web, the findings showed.

Meanwhile a further seven per cent used the internet to hire cars, flights or tickets to the region's many attractions.

"The internet is revolutionising tourism as consumers change their expectations and buying habits," Cornwall24 reports VisitCornwall's PR manager, Teresa Timms, as saying.

"We are really pleased that accommodation providers in the county are rising to the challenge and adapting to visitors' changing needs," she added.

The research looked at the personal accounts of 1,200 people holidaying in Bude, Falmouth, Looe, Newquay, St Ives and Truro between July 2006 and June 2007.
