People staying in Cornwall self-catering accommodation in April will be able to join locals celebrate the life and works of a Cornish pioneer.

Trevithick Day is an annual event celebrating the industrial heritage of the area, fuelled by Richard Trevithick who pioneered the invention of high pressure steam power in the 18th century.

The community festival, taking place in Cambourne on April 26th, takes over the streets of the town with free entertainment and revelry.

Attractions include model exhibitions and vintage vehicles as well as stirring concerts and performances by community groups including the local male choirs.

Children will also treat audiences to the Bal Maidens and Miners Dance led by the Cambourne Town Band.

Trevithick's Dance will leave Basset Street at 2.30pm with around 100 adults dressed in the traditional Cornish colours of Black ‘n Gold dancing in procession through the streets.

Meanwhile, the Steam Parade will leave Basset Road at 3.15pm, with engines steaming around the whole town.

Street entertainers, a flower festival and fairground rides will also be present to keep the whole family entertained.
