Cumbria self-catering this April Fool's Day
14th Mar 2008Self-catering visitors to Cumbria at the beginning of April will be able to indulge in some real tomfoolery at a popular tourist attraction.
American jester Paul Garbanzo from Virginia is making a special appearance at Muncaster Castle on April 1st.
Paul, who won the International Jester Tournament at Muncaster last year, will entertain the crowds to perform juggling, foolish antics and fire-eating acts that are bound to involve the crowds.
"Paul Garbanzo has been a real hit with Muncaster's visitors since becoming our honorary fool and lots of people wanted to know when he'd be back, so we're really excited that he's flying in especially for April Fool's Day," Muncaster's Peter Frost-Pennington said.
"We're the only Castle that appoints an annual jester, which gives our visitors a totally foolish reason to have fun on the most foolish day of the year."
Families can choose to put themselves in the stocks for charity, while children can take part in Tom Fool's Treasure Trail - named in honour of Thomas Skelton who was Muncaster's Fool in the 16th century, and apparently Shakespeare's inspiration for the fool in King Lear.
