Devon self-catering: Tourism industry 'must work together'
Hoteliers and owners of Devon self-catering accommodation should collaborate to ensure the future success of the county's tourism industry, a former tourist chief has urged.
Former chairperson of Devon Association of Tourist Attractions (Data), Pat Bendell called on all sectors of the industry to make efforts to promote the county, the Mid Devon Star reports.
Speaking to a meeting of Data, she admitted that the industry was currently facing difficult challenges.
However she stressed that supporting local area tourism partnerships and the new county-wide partnership organisation, Destination Devon, is key to securing the longevity and success of tourism in the area.
"We need to focus on what we offer visitors through showcasing our strengths - friendly accommodation, beautiful landscapes and locally produced quality food," she said.
"I want Devon tourism businesses to be the best in the country and for Devon to be seen as the best destination," she added.
Representing some of Devon's most popular attractions, Data has 44 members providing attractions for visitors of all ages all over the county.
