Visit 'Nation's favourite garden' in Cornwall

A Cornish tourist site has recently been called "The Nation's Favourite Garden" by BBC Gardener's World.

The Lost Gardens of Heligan, located in St Austell, Cornwall, covered an area of 1000 acres in the 19th. Over the years the gardens had fallen into disuse until the 1990s when they were reinvigorated and reclaimed.

Presently the tourist site offers over 200-acres of restored landscape which includes 22 acres of 'jungle'. There are tropical plants such as a banana plantation and bamboo.

Visitors can also enjoy the fruits of the land by buying them in the on-site shop. Over three hundred kinds of fruits and vegetables can be found in the gardens with some being used in tasty dishes in the restaurant.

"An impressive range of wild flora and fauna has been identifies within the gardens and estate, and visitors are welcome to explore the Heligan landscape to try and observe both common and rare species for themselves," said www.heligan.com
