Surfers considering visiting Cornwall B&Bs this summer can travel in style thanks to the announcement of new high-speed train services to Newquay.

Two nine-coach trains will run between Manchester and the popular Cornish resort, while two seven-coach trains are scheduled to connect Newquay and Newcastle.

The CrossCountry Trains services running every Saturday from May until September, will also feature holidaymaker-friendly features.

These include oversized luggage carriages designed for surfboards and watersports paraphernalia.

CrossCountry managing director Andy Cooper said: "We are delighted to be able to offer so much extra capacity this summer for holidaymakers to the west country.

"With the region's roads expected to be extremely busy, our high speed trains…are the perfect accompaniment to a summer holiday."

Campaign group Surfers against Sewage also welcomed the news, telling the BBC that transport options would help surfers to reduce their carbon footprint and avoid taking unnecessary flights.
