Thousands of tourists are expected to stay at a Blackpool B&B this June as the Aero Grand Prix arrives in the city, reports the Blackpool Gazette.

Blackpool secured Europe's fastest motor sport after a successful bid to host National Veteran's Week.

The incredible spectacle will see eight high-performance sport planes racing through the skies above Blackpool and flown by some of the world's top pilots.

Jeff Zaltman of Aero GP expressed pride at the announcement of the first race in the UK and said that he "couldn't think of a better place to race than Blackpool".

Aviation enthusiast John McNichols was the man who persuaded Blackpool Councillor Peter Callow to bring the race to Blackpool.

"I issued an open challenge to Peter Callow to get air racing here. He picked that up and he's come up trumps,” he told the Blackpool Gazette.

"The more events we can get the better for Blackpool – for tourists as well as residents. It's marvellous," he added.

The race will run from June 28th to 29th along North Shore beach front, which is close Blackpool's many fantastic B&Bs.
