Blackpool will become the third best shopping location in the north-west, according to plans announced by town council officials.

The council urged that the town could not compete with the retail hubs of Manchester and Liverpool but could offer a "whole new shopping experience".

Millions of pounds of private funds will reportedly be invested in Blackpool, along with the development of a brand new Debenhams store to open in August.

This will be good news for families who are planning to stay in a Blackpool B&B to visit the coastal town's many attractions.

Alan Cavill, head of corporate policy at Blackpool Council, told the Blackpool Gazette that "we want to go back to being in the top three or four shopping centres in the north-west".

"We want to work with independent shops and have just launched a project where we can offer smaller businesses grants enabling them to grow."

"Our plan is to make Blackpool an exciting place to shop," he added.

This is part of Blackpool's ongoing regeneration which is providing more attractions and facilities for families staying in Blackpool B&Bs.
