Visitors to Cornwall self-catering accommodation can reduce the impact of their carbon emission even on holiday by taking a few simple steps, a green organisation advises.

According to eco-advise company Carbon Footprint holidaymakers can ensure their stay is as green as possible by being thinking about how they are using energy.

The firm's founder John Buckley has called for people to use the "same common sense" that they would use if they were at home.

"If you're staying in hotels, make sure you don't overuse air conditioning - only use it when it's really needed," he said.

Energy can also be saved by turning TVs and electrical equipment off when it is not in use, he added.

Buying locally-sourced and produced food during your stay can help to minimise food miles and support businesses and farmers in local communities.

Bedruthan Steps Hotel in north Cornwall offers locally-sourced products such as wild garlic and is recommended in the Times newspaper for the quality of the dishes on offer.
