Britons are increasingly opting to take short breaks in the UK as a result of a greater awareness of their individual carbon footprints, it has been claimed.

According to the British Resorts & Destinations Association (Brada), people are now thinking about one of their two or three holidays abroad each year with a getaway within the UK.

Brada director Peter Hampson said he had noticed a growing trend of UK-focused holidays however he stressed that a "mass exodus" had yet to take place.

"There is absolutely no doubt that concern about carbon footprints is starting to have an effect on all aspects of the UK domestic life," he said.

"We're not talking about people abandoning foreign holidays en masse, we're talking about people thinking twice about whether to take two foreign holidays or maybe have a UK holiday instead," he explained.

Figures from the UK Tourism Survey 2006 show 79.2 million domestic holidays were taken in 2006, with total spending reaching £13.6 billion.

And Cornwall offers holiday makers plenty of opportunities to holiday in style, with beautiful beaches to rival those in sunnier climes.

Self-catering accommodation such as the four-star Cadson Manor near Callington, south-east Cornwall, offer a home from home experience with all mod-cons and plenty of special added extras to make your stay memorable.
