A new exhibition of etchings by the artist Frank Auerbach is to be hosted at the Abbot Hall in Kendal, providing a perfect time to stay at a Cumbria B&B.

Auerbach was born in Berlin to Jewish parents, but came to England in 1939 to escape the rise of the Nazis.

The artist became known for heavy set paintings with thick brush strokes in somewhat abstract arrangements.

In his 60-year artistic career, Auerbach only created around 40 etchings and this exhibition will be the first in the world to display the entire collection.

Organisers of the exhibition told 24hourmuseum.org.uk that "on first acquaintance his work, to some, can seem obscure, even crude or unreadable."

However "it is worth getting to know. Almost subliminal, its power and strength of feeling is striking, arresting and ultimately beautiful".

Abbot Hall has recently stopped charging an entry fee for under 18s allowing families staying at a Cumbria B&B to see the exhibition for a reduced admission.
