The national seal sanctuary near Gweek, Cornwall has become a popular attraction for families staying at a Cornwall B&B and recently had an unexpected new arrival.

A grey seal pub with a snowy white coat was recently brought in, despite the birthing season generally finishing in January.

Staff at the sanctuary named the animal April and administered treatment for a minor lung infection.

Tamara Cooper, animal care supervisor, told the BBC that the pup was a bit underweight when it was first brought in but that April is now looking much healthier

She also warned the public against disturbing pups, as there can be occasions when the mothers are away feeding and will eventually return to their off-spring.

"The public should keep a safe distance and observe for a while before making any action, and always call for expert advice," she added.

Based around the beautiful Helford estuary, the National Seal Sanctuary has become a key attraction for guests staying at a Cornwall B&B.
