Guests staying at an Edinburgh B&B will have a more environmentally friendly way to travel out of the city as a new 'green' bus route is set to launch.

Stagecoach is to launch Scotland's first ever carbon-neutral bus service to run in addition to its current climate change plan which includes using five per cent biodiesel across the fleet.

The carbon neutral service will cover journeys between Fife and Edinburgh and include destinations such as Edinburgh Airport, Glenrothes and the Gyle shopping centre.

Collaboration with charity Global Trees will see 140,000 trees planted in what could save 21,500 tonnes of CO2 emissions from the fleet.

Brian Souter, Stagecoach chief executive, said that this is an exciting initiative which is "setting the standard" for greener bus travel.

"There is an increasing awareness about the impact of people's behaviour on the environment."

"We hope this innovative project will promote intelligent car-use, encourage more people to get on board public transport and help protect the planet," he added.

The conifer, Broadleaf and woodland trees will be planted in estates on the Buccleuch Woodlands, which is in the south of Scotland.
