One of Edinburgh's most historic swimming pools is to get a £5.3 million revamp which will be great news for guests staying in an Edinburgh B&B.

Opened in 1900 in the Stockbridge area of the city, the Glenogle Baths is close to the Royal Botanical Gardens and features a vaulted double height glass ceiling.

Marjorie Mantle led the campaign to save the baths and expressed her happiness at how quickly Edinburgh council was moving with the refurbishment plans.

The Glenogle project coincides with an 18 month refit of the Royal Commonwealth Pool, which is costing £37 million in what will be a fantastic enhancement of the city's leisure facilities.

Michael Pinkerton, PR manager with Edinburgh Leisure, told the Scotsman that this move shows the council's commitment to swimming in Edinburgh.

"Work is ongoing to adjust our programme during both refurbishments to maintain as high a level of service as possible."

"We look forward to the benefits that this will bring," he added.

The Royal Commonwealth Pool is due to reopen in 2011 and provide another fantastic attraction for guests of an Edinburgh B&B.
