A new high-speed rail link could make it easier for holidaymakers to reach a Cumbria B&B.

Network rail has announced that a new high-speed rail link from London to Glasgow could stop at Carlisle.

A spokesperson has revealed that the new train line will use bullet trains capable of speeds of up to 186mph.

As the line will wind its way through the picturesque Cumbrian countryside, the train operator is seriously considering Carlisle as a destination.

"If we do go for a high-speed rail link between London and Glasgow it will take in Cumbria and a decision will be made on whether or not it would stop at Carlisle," the spokesperson told The Cumberland News.

"What we can say is that the new service would free up extra capacity on the existing main line, creating the scope for more train services from Carlisle, which will still benefit the area."
