Cumbria B&B: Miniature Versailles comes to Carlisle museum
Carlisle museum has recently acquired a miniature replica of the French palace of Versailles, which will soon be put on display for the enjoyment of families staying at a Cumbria B&B.
Bought for an undisclosed amount, the intricately crafted miniature was created by Mulvaney & Rogers in Wiltshire to celebrate its 25th anniversary.
The model is housed inside a beautifully handmade cabinet that stands at 66 centimetres high and is based on one of Marie-Antoinette's jewellery boxes.
Containing over 5,000 individually laid pieces, the model has ornate parquet floors and many of the techniques used in production mirrored that in the actual building.
Susie Rogers from Mulvaney & Rogers told the BBC that "we begin by researching the building from books and old plans and make site visits to photograph and sketch".
"We are unable to reveal the price paid but the choice is yours - a mass produced luxury family car or this unique piece of miniature craftsmanship," she added.
Anyone staying at a Cumbria B&B can go and see the model when it goes on display at Carlisle's World in Miniature museum.
