Blackpool B&B: Plans unveiled for new Blackpool piazza

Detailed and exciting plans for a multi-million pound new piazza in Blackpool town centre have been submitted to the council.

If the plans are approved, guests staying at a Blackpool B&B will be able to enjoy a £3.5 million development of the area in front of St John's Church on Church Street.

A fantastic sculpture will act as the focal point for the piazza alongside a cafe-style outdoor area on Cedar square featuring a double row of trees.

It is intended that various events and markets will go ahead in front of the church which will hopefully attract tourists to the centre of town.

Leit Werk, the developer who submitted the plans, told the Blackpool Gazette that "we believe St John's precinct is pivotal to the re-invention of Blackpool".

He explained that the development can "generate increased visitor activity, while providing a community meeting place".

"This new beacon will appeal to tourists and cultural visitors alike, drawing them from the bay into the town's heart."

"With this project, we wish to realise the area's potential, by inviting the whole of Blackpool back from the Promenade," he added.

The North West Regional Development Agency is funding the scheme and the council is expected to announce its decision on the plans imminently.
