Blackpool Tower is a popular attraction for people staying at one of the resort's many B&Bs and it is now due to get even better thanks to a £6 million revamp.

The 518-foot high landmark is being completely refitted from base to tip including the replacement of all four of its turrets.

Equally, all the nuts and bolts will be replaced that have eroded after years out in the elements and the Tower will be completely re-painted.

Leisure Parks, owner of the Tower, is working with English Heritage to carry out the work which is being done by a series of contractors.

Ralph Fairbrother, technical services director at the Tower, told the Blackpool Gazette that the Tower gets a "lot of wear and tear due to the weather conditions up there".

"In fact the whole Tower does get a lot of battering and the amount of sand damage to the structure is a lot."

"The structure of the Tower is very good, not like the Eiffel Tower which has more or less been rebuilt over the past few decades, but then again the Paris version doesn't have the weather conditions that our Tower does," he added.
