Edinburgh bars are the toast of the Scottish capital for guests staying at an Edinburgh B&B and many have now won top prizes at a recent awards ceremony.

At the Scottish Licensed Trade Awards, five Edinburgh bars scooped six awards in total which experts believe will be a major boost for the city's tourism industry.

The ceremony went ahead in Glasgow on June 30th with around 500 people watching the Element on Rose street win Best Cocktail Bar for 2008.

Caberet Voltaire scooped Nightclub of the Year with its employee, Rachel Gregson, winning Bar Personality of the Year.

Balmoral Bar was named Best New Bar and Fred Laseen, its manager, told the Evening News that he wanted to change the image of five-star service from being "stuffy and intimidating".

"Five-star service is all about caring about the customer and making sure they have a good time, and I think this award is a vindication of the good work we've done over the past eight months."

"The bar reflects some of my own personality in the sense that there's great attention to detail and we like to treat everyone like a VIP," he added.

With such a range of bars and clubs in the city, it is likely that there will be something for everyone staying at an Edinburgh B&B.
