A multi-million pound refit has been announced for Edinburgh Royal Commonwealth Pool which will provide a superb attraction for guests staying at an Edinburgh B&B.

The Evening News reports that SportsScotland is to provide an additional £5 million towards the huge £37 million cost of the refurbishment.

It is intended that the pool will be ready to host diving competitions for the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh.

The state-of-the-art pool will feature moving floors which can shift to adjust the depth of the water.

Equally, an extra 1.5 meters will be added to the main 50 meter pool which will also have the capacity to split into two separate sections.

Deidre Brock, Edinburgh sports leader, told the Evening News that "this is an important stage in the development of the Royal Commonwealth Pool".

"Once complete, the centre will provide modern facilities for the people of Edinburgh as well as playing an integral part in the 2014 Commonwealth Games," she added.

Families staying an Edinburgh B&B will be able to enjoy improved changing areas, heated benches next to the pool, alongside a revamped cafe and creche area.
