Dame Judi Dench made an appearance at the opening ceremony of the North Wall Arts Festival which runs until July 11th in Oxford.

Guests staying at an Oxfordshire B&B were able to experience a visit by the Oscar-winning actress to mark the inaugural opening of the festival.

Dame Judi viewed a display of postcards that are due for auction and then heard a gala classical music show including a version of Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto.

During the ten-day festival at Summertown Arts Centre, classical music, theatre and comedy events will go ahead.

Emily Man, director of the event, revealed to the Oxford Mail at the opening ceremony that "we're absolutely packed out, packed to the rafters".

"Judi has just been a complete stalwart in terms of her support of us," she added.

People staying at an Oxfordshire B&B can enjoy a theatre performance titled 50 Ways to Leave Your Lover along with a stand-up show from Shazia Mirza.
