The picturesque location of Woodcote in south Oxfordshire has been named the county's village of the year.

The rural idle of Woodcote saw off strong competition from the 2007 winner Steeple Aston, along with a host of other beautiful Oxfordshire villages.

Judges praised Woodcote for its strong sense of community and excellent natural conservation groups that protect the local environment.

Guests staying at an Oxfordshire B&B can enjoy walks around the woodland area which is rich with bluebells.

There is also the Woodcote cricket club and during July visitors can experience the Veteran Transport Rally staffed by volunteers from the village.

Fiona Preston, chairman of the Parish Council, told BBC Oxford that "this is absolutely brilliant; I mean we're ecstatic about this".

"It means so much because we have so many volunteers in the village and it's saying a big thank you and recognition of the work they do," she added.

The success of the beautiful village of Woodcote marks another incredible place to visit while staying at an Oxfordshire B&B.
