Blackpool B&B: Pop bands announced for switch-on ceremony
Two leading pop bands have been announced to perform at the famous switch-on ceremony for the Blackpool Illuminations.
Guests staying at a Blackpool B&B will be able to watch a performance by Irish pop band Boyzone following their successful reunion tour.
They will be joined by pop rock band Scouting for Girls and singer-songwriter David Jordan in this completely free concert.
During the star-studded ceremony on August 29th, Top Gear presenters Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond will be on hand to turn the lights on.
Councillor Maxine Callow, Blackpool Council portfolio holder for tourism and regeneration, told the Blackpool Gazette that "there has been a great deal of interest in the switch-on, thanks to the early announcement the Top Gear team will be doing the honours this year".
"The Illuminations are a very important asset to the resort, and we are pleased to announce such an exciting and eclectic line up for what will be a great start to the 2008 Illuminations season," she added.
Following the ceremony, people staying at a Blackpool B&B will be able to watch the Illuminations procession including a new design titled Venus Reborn by TV star Laurence Llewellyn-Bowen.
