Visitors choosing from the wealth of Cumbria B&B options can be safe in the knowledge that the community they are entering is one full of heroic endeavour.

That at least is the implication of a set of awards that is seeking to name the most community-minded people in the region.

A host of gongs will be up for grabs at the ceremony, including volunteer of the year, the safer communities prize and the award for stronger communities, Whitehaven News reports.

Tim Stoppard, Cunbria county councillor, told the newspaper that he is delighted to be part of the celebration that will highlight the best achievements in the volunteer sector.

"The Cumbria Community Awards 2007 were a huge success and I fully expect that this year will we will unearth even more unsung heroes," he added.

Cumbria B&B guests looking to learn a little more about the area might like to explore the beautiful natural landscape - a host of events concerning the local environment form part of the Flora of the Fells festival, which runs until September 30th.
