A series of local history and archaeology events have been created to encourage people to visit Cumbria and stay at one the county's many fantastic B&Bs.

Running from September 9th to 14th, a series of special events will go ahead around Cumbria to showcase the rich history of the county.

This includes a heritage fair at Whitehaven's Beacon Museum, an archaeology drop-in at Windermere and a Lake District archaeology talk at Millom.

Eleanor Kingston, Lake District National Park's archaeology and heritage adviser, revealed that heritage open days are designed to engage visitors' interest in the past.

"Linking in with the Civic Trust and English Heritage, we want to bring local history and culture to life through these free events".

"There is a fantastic programme and people can see some real artefacts, including 4,000 year old axes and Roman pottery," she added.

Guests staying at a Cumbria B&B can choose from over 3,500 fun attractions to enjoy while also learning a great deal about the history of this incredible county.
