Blackpool B&B: Visitors flock to watch The Stig switch on the Illuminations
Over 20,000 people packed Blackpool town centre on Friday to watch Top Gear's mysterious racing driver The Stig switch on the Illuminations.
Guests staying at a Blackpool B&B watched The Stig, who was flanked by Top Gear presenters Richard Hammond, Jeremy Clarkson but not James May, flick on the switch and trigger an amazing fireworks display.
The Blackpool Gazette reports Clarkson as telling the crowd that "we had a bit of a Top Gear race today. All I can tell you is that James May lost. All I want to do now is go to bed. That was a long day".
Visitors stayed on to watch a BBC 2 concert in a specially created arena, which included a performance by the recently reformed Irish boy band Boyzone.
The event was hosted by Janice Long and also featured sets by Scouting for Girls, soul singer David Jordan and Scottish singer/songwriter Sandi Thom.
Thanks to the warm weather, thousands of people of all ages enjoyed the switch on ceremony while also staying at a Blackpool B&B.
