Thousands of people staying at a Cornwall B&B are expected to attend the fantastic regatta of tall ships to be held this weekend in Falmouth.

In excess of 80,000 people are predicted to visit the four-day event which commences in the Cornish town this Saturday.

Around 25 unique vessels will grace Sail Trailing International's Funchal 500 Regatta which starts in Falmouth before heading on to Madeira in Portugal.

BBC News reports Sail Trailing International as suggesting that the regatta could prove the centrepiece for celebrations marking the island of Madeira's 500th anniversary of settlement.

Moreover, organisers of the event, which was last hosted in Falmouth in 1998, also feel that it could make a substantial contribution to Cornwall's tourism economy.

Visitors can watch public sailing trips, alongside enjoying live music, markets and a range of entertainment for the children.

Large square rigged vessels will berth in Queen's Wharf at Falmouth docks, which is a popular attraction for guests staying a Cornwall B&B.
