Devon B&B: Plymouth to host Beryl Cook exhibit

Art lovers staying at a Devon B&B will soon be able to view a fantastic retrospective of the work of Beryl Cook when an exhibition goes ahead in the county.

Organised by Peninsula Arts, the showcase will run from November 8th to 20th in the Roland Levinsky Building at the University of Plymouth.

Cook, who died earlier in the year aged 81, spent all her life in Plymouth and this showcase will celebrate both her life and her art.

She is famous for paintings of joyful, large ladies and 70 pieces of her work will go on show including rare pieces and also some dolls and chairs that she painted.

Simon Ible, director of Peninsula Arts, told the BBC: "We are delighted and honoured to bring this important exhibition to the public in the city that was Beryl's home for 40 years".

"Most people are familiar with Beryl's larger-than-life depictions of men and women going about their daily lives, portrayed with her unmistakable humour and charm."

"It is a celebration of her artistic achievement, which won her millions of fans around the world," he added.

Such a fantastic collection of well loved paintings by an artist with a rich connection to Plymouth will surely prove a real treat for people staying at a Devon B&B.
