The festive period offers a fantastic opportunity to see Edinburgh at its very best while staying at one of the city's B&Bs, according to a tourism expert.

November 27th marks the official commencement of the festive period in Edinburgh when the lights are illuminated on Princess Street and the huge Norwegian Christmas tree goes on display.

Gillian Thompson, spokesperson for VisitScotland, said that "Edinburgh at Christmas really is a sight to behold".

"The city sparkles in glittering brilliance as the lights of the Winter Wonderland illuminate Scotland's capital."

"Edinburgh has so much to offer all through the year but through the festive period it really provides both a unique view of Scotland and an opportunity to see one of Europe's most beautiful cities at its very best."

She added that both "visitors and locals alike" come to "gaze in wonder and enjoy everything Edinburgh has to offer at Christmas".

Festive attractions such as the markets, a carousel, an ice rink and the famous Edinburgh wheel will ensure that Edinburgh's B&Bs are full for the majority of the Christmas period.
