Great celebration of Cornish heritage gets under way
7th Sep 2008Visitors staying at a Cornwall B&B can look forward to a week-long celebration of Cornish heritage which gets underway this weekend.
Dehwelens, which is Cornish for homecoming, is being held in the village of Looe this year and is a salute to the rich history and culture in the county.
There will be films, music, walks and exhibitions going ahead during the week, much of it focussing on the great Cornish emigration of the 19th century.
Ron Overd, the Mayor of Looe, told the West Briton that "the community of Looe has come together to provide a full programme of artistic and cultural events, lectures, trips to surrounding villages and opportunities for the Cornish Diaspora to share their experiences".
"We hope this gathering will be the platform to forge lasting relationships with our Cornish cousins from around the world."
"Anyone visiting Looe this week will receive an enthusiastic welcome and be well looked after with a dynamic and interesting week celebrating all things Cornish," he added.
