Blackpool B&B: Turtles homed in to Blackpool zoo

Animal-loving guests staying at a Blackpool B&B will soon be able to view some southern painted turtles after they were taken in by Blackpool Zoo.
The Zoo recently took on 50 of the turtles after they were confiscated at Manchester Airport in an unlicensed shipment from Florida.
Despite the reptiles being properly declared, Custom and Excises confiscated the reptiles as the importers did not know they needed to take out the appropriate licenses.
Jude Rothwell, Blackpool Zoo PR and marketing executive, told the Blackpool Citizen: "The airport's animal welfare officer contacted the zoo to ask if we could take them in".
"Many of them appeared rather lethargic and were placed in holding tanks where they are being fed and carefully monitored whilst we await instructions from Customs and Excise," explained Ms Rothwell. "Sadly ten of the turtles didn't survive the weekend, but the others are doing well."
"It just shows how dangerous it is to import creatures like these for the pet market," she warned. "It is extremely stressful for them."
The chance to see these beautiful rescued reptiles will surely prove a surprise treat for people staying at a Blackpool B&B.
