Cornwall B&B: Seed gathering party proves a success in the county
13th Oct 2008Environmentally-conscious guests staying at a Cornwall B&B this weekend attended two National Trust properties in the county for a seed-gathering event.
Sunny weather ensured hundreds of visitors descended on the Glendurgan Gardens at Mawnan Smith, near Falmouth, and also to Trelissick at Feock, which is close to Truro.
People attended the event to gather seeds from mature trees in order to take them home or pass them on to gardeners.
Jon O'Donoghue, visitor services manager, told What's On South West: "It never ceases to amaze me how many different forms fruits and seeds can take."
"The magnolia seed pods are like something from Mars and the giant busy-lizzie exploding cases certainly take you by surprise."
"It's important to sustain local forests with seeds from native trees and also fun to explore new plants through their weird and wonderful autumn seeds and fruits," he added.
With staff from the trust on hand to offer germination advice and information, this event proved a real treat for green-figured people staying at a Cornwall B&B.
