People coming to the Lake District and staying at a Cumbria B&B must receive a good quality and value-for-money experience, tourism experts suggest.

Cumbria tourism currently employees 36,000 people and generates around £1.1 billion for the regional economy.

Delegates attending the recent Cumbria Tourism conference heard that the county is in a strong position to prosper in the current economic conditions, as long as it offers a good value experience.

Lord Inglewood, Cumbria Tourism president, told Travel Mole: "We have the finest tourism product in the county of Cumbria than anywhere in the world."

"As long as we play to our strengths and offer good quality and value for money, I do think the tourism industry can survive the current economic turbulence and will proceed positively forward," he added.

Also during the event, a strategy was launched to bring 1.8 million more people to the county and its many B&Bs over the next ten years.
