People staying at a Cumbria B&B enjoyed the Strictly Dine and Dance charity event last Friday which featured ten celebrities fighting it out in a dance competition.

Television star Carole Smilie acted as compere for the evening, which was held in the Shepherds Inn at Rosehill, Carlisle, with all proceeds going to the Eden Valley Hospice.

The sold out 300-strong audience picked out the Latin mambo of Nell Gordon and Peter Hayton to make them the winning couple for the evening.

Carole Ferguson, chairman of the Hospice trustees and judge for the evening, told the News & Star: "It has been one of the most successful and exciting events we've held."

"Everyone keeps asking if we will do it again," she added. "We've raised a lot of money."

There was also a charity auction during the evening where guests staying at a Cumbria B&B bid for items including an original photograph of the Beatles.
