Nature loving guests staying at a Cornwall B&B can now view the rare snowy owl after one of the birds was seen on the Isles of Scilly off the Cornish coast.

The snowy owl is believed to have been attracted to the Isles of Scilly from its natural habitat in the Arctic Circle thanks to a recent spate of wintery weather.

This is the first time that the snowy owl has been spotted on the Isles of Scilly since 1972 and it is likely that the owl is in search of food to supplant its usual diet of lemmings.

Nigel Hudson, from the British Birds Rarities Committee, told BBC News: "There's a chance that its food-stock, which is lemmings, has plummeted, so it's trying to find extra food and has blown across the country and arrived on our shores."

Such a rare visit by these incredible birds will surely prove a genuine treat for ornithologists staying at a Cornwall B&B.
